The MOMS in the Bible study I teach are working to develop the spiritual discipline of praying for their husbands. We have chosen Tuesday to be a day of concentrated prayer for our men.

The basis for this Tuesday "Praying for Your Man" is found in Col. 1:9-12. We are learning to develop the spiritual discipline of praying God's Word back to Him. Personalize this passage and pray it for your BELIEVING husband.

Col. 1:9-12 say, "For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His willin all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light."

Our prayer for an UNBELIEVING husband is based on 2 Timothy 2: 25-26. Pray that "perhaps God may grant (your husband) repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and (that he) may come to (his) senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will."

We are committing to offer concentrated prayer for the menfolk in our lives and praying together on Tuesdays. Thanks for joining us.

Things happen to me . . . Today has had SO MANY twists and turns that it has sent me scurrying home to put on my fuzzy jammers and prepare for an early bedtime. Walk with me through me day - if you dare!

First of all, I had trouble getting my "It's Tuesday-Let's Pray for our Husbands" post up. I wanted to also post it on my blog and my computer refused to play nicely with me and worked itself up into a snit which pushed me to the last minute leaving for a hair appointment (and nobody messee with my hair appt!). I laid my ornery computer aside, dashed through the shower, scooped up all the stuff I needed for the day, and rushed out the door. After my hair appointment I had a lunch date with one of my great heroes of the faith, Donna Gaines (my pastor, Steve Gaines, wife). Because I live so far out in the country that when I leave to "go to town" I pack for the day-that means a snack, a bottle of water, an iced tea, a change of shoes, another coat in case the weather goes bad, my notebook, my ipad, my bag of reuseable shopping bags for a Walmart run after lunch, and of course my keys, my phone and my purse. I told you I live way out in the country! I have learned to pack for every possible scenario. I gathered all that stuff up, tossed it into the passenger seat, and jumped in the driver's seat.

I arrived at my hair appt. on time and reached for my purse. What??!!? All that stuff and NO PURSE!! I HAD LEFT MY PURSE AT HOME! Did I mention I was going to get my hair done and then lunch with Donna? Did I need to say more about what a serious issue this was? No purse=no money! Now my hair salon is in Oakland-25 minutes from home so driving back home for it was out of the question. I walked into the shop ready to beg, "I'll pay you on Tuesday for a haircut today!" Only then did I discover I HAD JUST LOCKED MY KEYS IN THE CAR! What is up with that? Now no purse. No keys. I called Craig, who called AAA, who dispatched help who got my keys for me. Thank you kindly. Then I headed to lunch with Donna, hoping she was up for buying my lunch!! No purse. But on the up side I was having a killer hair day!

Lunch with Donna was glorious. Time with my sweet friend in the Lord is always a blessing. We chatted over salads and shared what God is doing in our lives. Time to leave lunch came to soon. My server had packed up the part of my salad I had not eaten and handed me a bag with my salad tucked inside. I dropped my iPhone into the bag-no purse remember-told Donna goodbye and headed to my car. Once in the car I reached for my phone to call Craig R. and tell him how much I appreciated his help in my car drama. I picked up my phone and it was drenched with juice from my salad! Are you kidding me??!!!? This day is one for the books! #thingshappentome #needakeeper #joyintact #earlytobed

Praying for Our Husbands
Week Two

This is a spiritual discipline we are working on in the MOMS Ministry Bible study. On Tuesdays we are joining together in concentrated prayer to intercede for the men in our lives. We are learning to pray God's Word back to Him on behalf of our families. Join us as we pray especially for the men in our lives.

PRAYING FOR OUR BELIEVING HUSBANDS ( and adult sons) - Based on Eph. 1:15-20 we pray, "Father, I pray that you will give _________ a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of God and that you will open the eyes of __________'s heart. I pray You will enlighten __________ so that he will know what is the hope of Your calling on his life, what are the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in him and all the saints, and that he may comprehend what is the surpassing greatness of Your power toward him and toward all who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of Your might (resurrection power) which You brought about in Christ, when You raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at Your right hand in the heavenly places. Amen."

PRAYING FOR AN UNBELIEVING (OR AN UNCOMMITTED) HUSBAND-This is a spiritual discipline we are working on in the MOMS Ministry. We are praying back GOD'S WORD. When we do, we always know we are praying in GOD'S WILL.

Prayer based on 1 Peter 3:1-4. Dear Father, Please bring____________________ to the saving knowledge of Christ by grace through faith. Help me to model Christ-likeness and use my life to give him an appetite for the things of God. I pray that You will use the Word of God and the Spirit of the Living God to draw __________ unto yourself. I pray __________________ will see my submissive spirit toward the Lord and toward him so that he may be won without a word from me (no nagging, complaining, arguing over spiritual things, etc.) May he observe the dramatic ways You have changed me from the inside out and see the change in the behavior of his wife. May __________________ come under Holy Spirit conviction as he observes my chaste and respectful behavior. Let my adornment not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. Let _____________________ see Jesus in me! Amen."

Keep calm and pray on!

In the vein that things happen to me. . . Tonight we met Jason, Patti, and the little boys at Mellow Mushroom near their home in Franklin, TN. After ordering Craig realized he did not have his phone. He had been responding to a text an we all knew he had just had the phone in his hand. We began calling him in our phones. We could not hear the ring over the resturant chatter and the live music we had really been enjoying up to this moment.

A search was made of the booth, pockets, and purses. No phone!! Our server joined in the search. No phone. Declan climbed under the table but no phone. This was getting crazy. How could a phone disappear. Suddenly Declan pointed to the family across the table and said, "There is Poppa's phone. I think that man has it!" Of course everyone has a black smart phone these days it seems!

Patti wondered aloud if it had been scooped up with the menus. It was the only scenerio that made sence. Mellow Mushroom has the style of menus that had a heavy black cord around he edges with a pocket of laminate to hold the menu. The serve seemed skeptical but played along. She checked the menu station but no phone! After about 30 minutes of searching and recounting when he had it last, we gave up and tore into the pizza-although the meal did not seem as good as usual since we were all BUMMED out. Imagine our delight when our server showed up with it!!! it HAD been gathered up with the menus and appeared at the hostess' station!!!!

Praying for Your Husband
Week 1

I teach a Bible study specifically for MOMS every Thursday at Bellevue Baptist Church. Look us up under Women's Ministry and join us if you are in the Memphis/Cordova area.

This semester we are designating TUESDAY to be the day we pray for our men. While you probably pray for your hubby everyday, on TUESDAYS we are going to join together to pray specifically for our husbands. We will be personalizing and praying God's Word for our menfolk. Remember-when you pray God's Word back to Him, you are always praying IN THE WILL OF GOD. Each Tuesday I will post a verse we will be praying for believing spouses, and one to pray if your mate is an unbeliever. Join us as we endeavor to pray concentrated and specific prayers the men in our lives!

Today's selection is Psalm 1:1-3. Here is how I personalize Scripture to pray for my man. Here is how I used Psalm 1:1-3 to pray for my husband Craig (and my sons, Jason and Dawson).

Dear Lord, I pray for Craig today that he will never walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But that Craig's delight will be in the law of the Lord, and in Your law he will meditate day and night. I pray Craig will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever Craig does, that You will prosper the work of his hands. Amen."

If you are married to an unbeliever, this is the verse we are praying:

1 Timothy 2:3-4, "This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men, including my husband _________________ to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." This is our selection to be praying for those men outside a personal relationship with Christ. It IS God's will for your husband to be saved!! Pray God's Word for him to come to know Christ.

When we pray back GOD'S WORD to Him, we can rest assured we are praying in the center of GODS WILL!
