Memorizing God's Word is a spiritual discipline that continues to challenges me. It is not that I do not value knowing God's Word; it is that it doesn't come easy to me to memorize. So I have to intentionally work at it. But it ain't easy! Amen, anybody?

This is a passage I am currently memorizing. Paul declares the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is IN US who believe. I thought that truth was worthing "hiding in my heart." Join me in this spiritual discipline of memorizing. Also I have been praying this for Craig, Jason and Patti, Dawson and Kathryn, and myself everyday this week. When you pray GOD'S WORD, you  know you are praying GOD's WILL.
Ephesians 1:15-23, "For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might  which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.  And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all."

Memories are a funny thing and I have been barraged with a bucket load of them of late as I have packed up my mom's house-the home I was raised in and where she lived for the last 58 years. In many ways this trip down memory lane has been a painful process due to the loss of my mom. Dismantling her home was bittersweet and even staggering at times.

Memories are a funny thing. But yesterday I got to experience a priceless one!! Ray-Ray and I met for lunch at Mister B's (
To complete my shout-out to Mister B's I feel compelled to tell you it is located at 6655 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38138.) on the recommendation of our good friend, Gloria Jones. We had never been there before or (no offense to my newfound friend, Mister B) even heard of it. Of course, you understand that I live east of Egypt-way out here in Moscow, TN! Anyhoo, we sat down and checked out the menu when what to my wondering eyes should appear but these words, "CELESTIAL CHICKEN."

Now if this does not mean anything to you, I suggest you stop reading and get on about your day. But if you are a longtime resident of Memphis you will remember the Dobbs House Luau Restaurant at 3135 Poplar, across from East High School. It was launched in 1959 and torn down in the 70s I think. They were famous for this lightly breaded, sesame sprinkled, deep fried chicken dish which was served with white rice and a thick sauce that was a culinary treat in a bowl.

When Craig and I were dating, this was our designated "go to" place for very special occasions. After we married, we would save up our pennies for an all out treat at the Luau for their famous CELESTIAL CHICKEN. But like all good things, the Luau came to an end when it closed (after relocating at the airport for a short run), taking with it one of the most memorable mouth-watering chicken dishes of all time. And in the South, where everybody and their brother's grandma makes a family favorite version of Southern fried chicken-that is saying something!

But yesterday, sweet memories of the early days of young love with Craig Stockdale collided with the present day (and I am happy to report-Craig and I are still madly in love and he remains the great love of my life!) when I was suddenly transported back to a much simpler time (at least I remember it to be) in my life (back to the 1970s) when a freshly made order of CELESTIAL CHICKEN was set before me. Oh my-the visual culinary experience. The familiar aroma. The moment. The memory. And, oh my soul - the sauce! I had to pause and take a moment to gather myself.

In the picture I look like I am about to weep for joy over the goodness. In reality, that was very close to my state. Don't judge me-I obviously have issues with food! I'm not proud of it but it is obviously true.

People-stop what you are doing and drive as quickly as you can to Mister B's. March straight in to the table. Settle yourself in and order-yea demand-an order of CELESTIAL CHICKEN. For a moment, disregard the fact that we all know better than to be eating fried food (except in tiny indulgent bits of moderation) and forget that you know that any sauce you are compelled to eat with a spoon simply cannot be good for you. And indulge yourself. Indulge yourself in the sweet nectar of the lightly battered fried chicken. Linger long over the buttery goodness of the thick cream sauce which you will want to eat with a spoon. And then thank me. Thank me for telling you about one of the best Memphis memories to made in this lifetime! Enjoy.
