I am happy to share my list with you, but again I remind you that you will want to develop your own list. Just use mine as a guide - a way to get started if you think this technique will help you. Having your own key words that are meaningful to you and your faith-walk will add value to your study time with the Lord.

I use color pencils to color code key words as I study the Word. I have been studying for over 30 years and I am always looking for ways to keep myself engaged in what I am reading. The danger is to become so familiar with a passage that I start "skimming" the passage without taking in the truth. This technique has made me slow and feast on the banquetings table of God's Word.

This is my own system but I am glad to share it with you. It is not, however, the "be all end all" way to study. This just works for me and may be something that will help you study better.

As I read, I track about 65 words (and I continue to add to my list). I have the list on my desk with each word colored so I can use it as my "key." Because I have a limited number of colored pencils (cheap variety) I had to be creative. For some words, I use smybols (heaven, love, heart, blood, water etc). For some words I color a dot in the middle of the word (if you color the whole word it becomes hard to read). For some words I color a circle of color without filling in the center (looks like a doughnut). For some words and/or phrases I use a colored in box.

This is what my Bible looks like.

"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not
need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth."
                                                                       2 Timothy 2:15

Several people have asked me about how I study the Bible. I have been a serious Bible student and teacher for over 30 years. While this is not the only way to study, I do want to share some of the techniques I have developed.

Every day I start my study time by reading 1 Proverbs and 5 Psalms. There are 31 Proverbs so reading 1 a day according to the day of the month works out nicely. Since this tecnique is regualrly repeated each month, the Word of God slowly begins to renew my mind and transform my behavior.

I find that as I read God's Word repetitively I begin to think His thoughts and speak His truth. She opens her mouth in wisdeom and the teaching of kindmess of on her tongue (Pro. 31:26).

Repetive reading is one of the best techniqes for studying the Bible. It allows the Spirit of God to begin to impart a body of truth to us as opposed to skipping around "all willy-nilly" around the Word. Plus when you sit down to study, you immediatley know where you are going in the Word. A lot of time is wasted trying to decide where to start studying.

I hope this tips helps. I will also share about using color coding in my next post.
